1. What is E-Detective?
E-Detective is a “Digital Message Recorder” or “DMR” for recording Email, Instant Message, HTTP Web Browsing, FTP, Telnet and others Internet protocols passing through the Internet or Intranet.
2. E-Detective consists of two modules.
a) The E-Detective DMR is designed to automatically record all emails and chat messages.
b) The E-Detective Manager includes a mail administrator function. The administrator function supports the system to manage and control mail and message passing with I/O approve, just like an automatic electronic document message login and control systems.
3. What are the advantages of E-Detective?
Backup, Report, Search, Data Mining, Long Term Storage, and Control Emails and Chat Traffic. Everything is under administrator control. Furthermore, E-Detective is customizable according to requirements by customers.
a) Backup - Automatically backs up your incoming and outgoing emails. If the mail server or computer hard disk crashes you still have a backup on E-Detective.
b) Report - Analyze and report on individual and group mail usage and contents. The report can be set up to run by day, week, month or user specified times.
c) Search - Search and retrieve mails based on day, week, month, senders name, receivers name, subjects etc.
d) Archive Data - Automatically backup emails and online chats to CDs for archive purposes. Archiving may be scheduled on a regular basis (hour, day, week and month etc).
e) Customizable - Our R&D engineers can customize E-Detective based on user requirements.
4. Why do we need E-Detective?
a) Safety - automatically back up emails and online chats, no accidental loss.
b) Security - Monitor your incoming and outgoing official emails and chat messages.

5. What is the difference between E-Detective and spy software?
E-Detective is a complete set of solution, not just for capturing Internet activities, but also for auditing and archiving all Internet transactions. E-Detective is easy to deploy into network with simple configuration. Spy software normally monitors a single PC. Besides, spy agent needs to plant into all PCs if want to monitor the entire LAN network.
6. Will port mirroring that E-Detective uses affect switch performance?
Overloading can occur at the mirror port on a standard 10/100Mbps switch, as the total data volume at all the ports is so great that it exceeds the capacity limit of 100 Mbps. There is a risk of some of the useful data at the mirror port not being seen - or of being overlooked. The last variant can result in impaired switch performance as far as data traffic is concerned. Nevertheless, this method approaches monitoring in the shared media segment most closely, as all the traffic in a segment is monitored. It is recommended for large amount of users or high loading network, a Gigabit switch with high backplane speed is recommended.
7. What is the difference between E-Detective and a mail server?
A mail server only monitors mails passing
through the local server; E-Detective monitors all mail and
online chat traffic on a network.
8. What are E-Detective hardware requirements?
a) PC systems (486 Or 586)
b) DOM - to store OS and software
c) Hard Disk
d) CD ROM Writer
e) Watchdog Card
9. Why does E-Detective use a PC system?
a) PCs support CD writer and hard disks.
b) Can easily add additional devices as needed.
10. How E-Detective manage to capture large flows of data?
E-Detective models (FX30, FX100 and FX120) come with Gigabit Ethernet ports that allow high flows to be captured. Port mirror switch must have high backplane speed if the network data flows is huge.
